Inspired by happy days on Waverly Avenue in Syracuse, NY, The Waverly incorporates proprietary mattress crafting techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation in a family of artisans. Their thinking is simple, really: machine manufacture may be faster and less expensive—but ultimately, people do it better, and human power is a 100% renewable source of energy! They should know: the artisans who create The Waverly have more than 100 years of combined experience.

This fine organic mattress is custom-made for The East Coast Organic Mattress Store. At its center is a 6-inch natural Dunlop 85-D Med/Firm White Eco Latex core. The latex is surrounded by the world's finest and most natural blend of Certified Organic Eco Wool from sheep raised in Northern California and Oregon. The wool is cleaned and carded in Northern California.

The core is covered in hand-sewn 100% Certified Organic Cotton fabric, which was woven in the Carolinas and then gently massaged to provide a luxuriously soft feel. On top of the 6-inch Med/Firm 85-D core rests a 3-inch 75-D, 100% natural Dunlop Eco Latex attached pillow-top. Under this mattress is a Spruce Wood, Amish-made foundation, slatted for ventilation. The foundation is also covered in 100% Certified Organic Cotton fabric.

Thank you for purchasing
a WJ Southard mattress.
While we can’t stop you from crawling into your new
bed and taking a nap, we do recommend reading this
in the first couple weeks of receiving your new bed.
Following our care guidelines ensures your mattress will
live up to its potential—and give you many undisturbed
nights of the rejuvenating rest that will lead to more
active days

The Honeymoon Stage.

In the first four to five weeks, you and your mattress
will get to know each other. The natural materials will
respond to your body in a way that will make your mattress
more comfortable. Gentle body impressions and subtle
shifts are perfectly normal, but it will not affect the
performance of your sleep system. The materials should
conform to your body like a pair of shoes. Proper care
will prevent normal body impressions from becoming
sags and prolong your mattress’ longevity.

Follow our care guidelines to make sure your mattress
lives up to its fullest potential. If, for some unexplained
reason (which as you know, many things in life happen
or inexplicable reasons) your mattress falls apart, our
20-year guarantee will protect you.The first 10 years is a flat out warrantyand the second 10 years are pro rated.

Proper Support.

While we don’t force you to buy a wood foundation, like
others, we do ask that you support your mattress,
so it can support you. Adequate support helps to
avoid structural damage and prevents your bed
from sagging in the middle.
• Full, queen, split queen, king and California king
size sets: Use a wood slat bed frame, or a metal frame that supports head, foot
and sides as well as a rigid center support.
(On a free standing bed frame, it should have at least 5 legs
with a rigid center support.)
• Bed with slats should have at least 5 five hardwood
(i.e., oak or ash) slats (1 x 4’s) with at least three
sturdy legs touching the floor for center support.
When placing your mattress on top of platform or
wood slats, use a mattress pad, or an organic piece of fabric,preferably organi cotton canvas, over the slats.This will reduce wear on the mattress cover and
impede the transfer of splinters.

For mattresses being placed on just a slat bed slats should have no more than a 3" airspace inbetween the slats for proper support.If you have an old slat bed and want to keep it make sure you add in slats to fill in the gaps if you have to.

Regularly check all bolts, screws, legs, and castors
regularly to make sure they haven’t loosened.
Before you call in an exorcist, note that noises
usually originate from the bed frame, headboard or
footboard. Remove mattress and foundation from
the bed. Check the frame by pushing down in several
locations to locate the noise. If the noise cannot be
located, replace the foundation on the frame and
repeat the test. Finally, replace the mattress and
repeat the test.

Maintaining Comfort.

Rotating Instructions: Please rotate your mattress
every three months to encourage even wear.

Flipping Instructions:

Your one sided mattress does not need to be flipped

Appearance.

Use a standard-size washable wool(recommended) or organic cotton mattress protector to
keep the sleep system clean and free of odors.
• Should a liquid soak through your mattress
protector, remove sheets and pads immediately.
• Wick away spots with a solution that is 1:3 parts
white distilled vinegar and water. Spray solution
on the spot, blot it with a cotton fiber and then
expose it to direct sunlight until the spot fades
and the mattress dries. Make sure mattress is
thoroughly dry and free of cleaning solution
before returning it to use.
• Never use detergent or a hard brush.
• Vacuum your mattress to remove dirt, dust, or lint.

Let it Breathe.

• The fresh cotton-lanolin scent you detect comes
from the aroma of the natural materials. Simply
let the bed air out for a couple hours without
any sheets, and the scent will subside.
• Once a month, strip all the sheets and mattress
pad to allow the natural fibers in your mattress
to breathe.
• Do not place your mattress on solid wood
boards. An obstruction like this will not allow
your bed to breathe, resulting in mold.

Flammability

Mattresses and box springs are tested together as sets.
Mixing and matching mattresses and box springs will
render the flammability tests void.
