We start by using only pure British wool. There are no dyes, pesticides, or stain protections that are commonly used by the other carpet manufacturers. The application of these chemicals would greatly affect indoor air quality through the off gassing of volatile organic compounds. The primary backing that they use is also an industry first combination of European hemp and cotton. Incorporated in an all natural primary backing that is specifically designed for use in our biodegradable flooring.
The Manufacturer uses the hardy hemp fiber, due to its durability, strength, and mold and mildew resistance. The wool yarns are locked into place with a natural adhesive that is derived from the rubber tree. This adhesive is completely biodegradable and nontoxic as well. For the back of the carpet they use a jute secondary. Jute was commonly used in the carpet industry before the introduction of the synthetic backings currently employed. They chose to use this type of backing to further our cause of making a completely natural and nontoxic carpet.

Delivery: Your carpet will be shipped to your installer of choice anywhere in the country, or if you live within 60 miles of our store our UNION installers will arrange for delivery and installation.With wall to wall carpet it is cheaper to have it shipped to the installer than your home.These rolls weigh alot and are easier left handled by the installer. Serged rugs can be shipped to either the home owner, or the installer depending on the size and the weight of the rug. For estimates on wall to wall we recommend having the carpet installer of your choice come out to your home to take measurements. Then e mail or fax us the measurements of each room over to us. We then fax those measurements down to the manufacturer and they send us a quote on the shipping and our costs for the product, and then we get together with you to give you the final price of the carpet delivered to you, or your installer. Tack on what the installer wants and add it up with your cost of the carpet, and devide the yards of carpet you purchase by the cost of the product and the installation and you have the cost per yard installed.We have union carpet installers in the Phila area who travel within a radius, but you can use anyone you choose.For those customers outside of our area, we recommend getting 3 estimates from the installers and showing them carpet samples. This carpet is really easy to install and requires no glues to adhere the wool padding to the floors underneath the carpet. In the end you have carpet that will last for generations.
100% NATURAL WOOL CARPET PADDING
This Asian wool based carpet padding is a blend of coarse naturally pigmented wool's mechanically needled (not glued) into a cotton scrim.
The padding is free from dyes, fire retardant, glues, moth proofing or adhesives. Color will vary from charcoal brown to tan, depending upon fiber availability. Some vegetable matter may be present. Average thickness is 7/16 inch, and the average weight is 40 oz/sq. yd.
Individuals who have a sensitivity to animal fibers should obtain a sample before ordering. This 100% natural wool padding will provide many years of service before needing to be replaced. When it does, we urge our customers to recycle it to the garden where it will safely biodegrade while serving as an effective weed barrier and mulch.
Over a period of 2-3 seasons the padding will completely disappear, adding nitrogen and other nutrients plants need to the soil, essentially returning to grass.

This is a carpet unlike any other produced in North America. First of all it is COMPLETELY biodegradable. Obviously, this is achieved through the use of only 100% natural raw materials. This great organic line is made with a face fiber of 100% natural British wool.
There is no moth proofing or stain protections applied. In conjunction with this the manufacturer uses only naturally pigmented wool fibers for coloration as opposed to any of the harsh dyes and chemical bonding agents other carpet manufacturers use. To further differentiate this carpet, they use a natural primary of hemp and cotton. This is used instead of the traditional synthetic polypropylene primary. The primary is the material that the tufting machine places the wool yarn into and acts to hold it in place.
The next process is the application of adhesive and secondary backing material. This further helps to lock the stitches in place and prevents slippage of the yarn. This is another area where they apply their unique techniques. The adhesive that is used is 100% natural and bio-degradable. It is made of natural rubber from the rubber tree. The secondary (back of carpet) is made from jute, a hardy earth friendly fiber producing plant.
All of these elements add up to make a product that is beautiful to look at yet sacrifices nothing in the way of their commitment to indoor air quality and the environment.
